The Person Behind Meniv Energy
Jean Scemama is the founder and CEO of Meniv Energy. With over two decades of leadership in renewable energy, waste-based fuels and corporate finance, he combines deep financial expertise with a pragmatic, people-oriented management style, and has driven growth and large-scale projects in Israel, Europe and the US.
In his previous roles he led several large, mostly public, companies in the field. As CEO of Shikun & Binui Energy he managed $2B in assets across Israel, Europe and the US, and led the commercial commissioning of Ashalim (121MW CSP) and Tzeelim (120MW PV) - Israel's two landmark solar projects. As CEO of Ecoppia Scientific he led the company through a private placement and then to a public offering, raised more than $120M for the company, and expanded its robotic solar-panel cleaning solution into five new countries. As CEO of Frankfurt-listed Petrotec AG he grew revenues from $30M to $250M and facilitated the sale to Renewable Energy Group, later acquired by Chevron for ~$3B. Jean also served as CEO of the renewable-energy projects company of The Israel Corporation until 2011, leading the construction of what was then Israel's largest solar project and the first project-finance transaction in the Israeli solar industry.
Jean has also served on the boards of Heliofocus, Primus Green Energy and CyberArc, and on the boards of the European Biodiesel Board (EBB) and the European Waste-based and Advanced Biofuels Association (EWABA), both in Brussels. He currently serves pro bono on the board of the Yahel Philanthropic Fund (named after Yehuda Recanati) and on the board of "Ziv Neurim" (named after Ziv Levi z"l), an NGO he co-founded. He holds a BA in Accounting & Economics (with honors) from Tel Aviv University and an MBA from INSEAD in Fontainebleau, France.
In the past year, through Meniv Energy, Jean has been originating and developing renewable-energy and circular-economy projects in Israel and neighboring countries. He is a partner in Superpipe Ltd., which recycles industrial plastic; has built several commercial solar systems in central and southern Israel; and is advancing, together with his partners, the development of solar-plus-storage projects and large-scale wind projects (hundreds of megawatts) in Cyprus, Greece and the Balkans.
